How to select a suitable caster

2020-09-30

There are three types of caster: swivel, brake and rigid. Swivel caster can rotate to 360 degree freely. Brake caster can stop the wheel with a stepper. And rigid caster just can go straightly, it can’t rotate. The followings as below are five tips to select a suitable caster.

Load Capacity:

The heavier the load, the larger the wheel required for the caster. The weight of the load also influences the mobility of the wheel. Hence, in order to select the suitable caster, please measure the required load capacity.

Load capacity of each caster = (Equipment weight + max load capacity) / 4 x 1.25

For example, Equipment weight = 200kg, Max load capacity = 280kg,
Load capacity of each caster =(200+280) / 4 x 1.25 = 150,
So we suggest that choose the product whose load capacity is more than 150kg.

Dynamic Load Capacity = Load capacity of each caster x 4 x 0.8
Static Load Capacity = Load capacity of each caster x 4 x 1.2

Note: (1)All of our casters do the fracture tests, the fracture test is estimated weight of load x 4
(2)If the quantity of the equipment>4, please contact ours sales for more information

For example, the estimated load capacity of A32SW-NLR is 250 kg, so
Dynamic Load Capacity =250x4x0.8=800kg
Static Load Capacity =250x4x1.2=1200kg
Fracture test =250x4=1000kg

Wheel Size:

There are lots of wheel size, and HO CASTER provide 2-8 inch caster wheel. In normal, there are two size units: inch and mm. 1 inch = 25.4 mm. And wheel size = Wheel Diameter x Wheel Width.

Overall Height:

Measured from the floor to the actual mounting point is the required overall height.

Floor Conditions:

Floor Conditions affect the performance of mobility of caster and wheel. For example, rugged floor is suitable for elastic rubber wheels; the PU wheel has the better performance on the floor with oil or chemical. For more information about wheels performance on different flooring type, please navigate to our wheel type page.

Other Specification:

This caster has a top plate attachment with a swivel, brake or rigid wheel assembly.
Plate mount casters are generally used for higher weight loads.

This caster has a stem attachment with a swivel wheel assembly that will allow rotation of 360 degrees, which permits movement in any direction.
Stem mount casters are generally used for lower weight loads.

*Height ±3mm is the normal range
